Workshop on Building and Enhancing Standardization, Metrology and Accreditation Capacity in the OIC Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Member States will be held on 07 – 10 May 2013 in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey.
The Workshop on the theme of “Building and Enhancing Standardization, Metrology and Accreditation Capacity in the OIC LDC Member States” will provide the National Standardization Bodies (NSBs) representatives of OIC LDC Member States and relevant institutions an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the standardization, metrology and accreditation processes, including issues specific to Islamic countries. Simultaneously, giving a means to exchange their views, knowledge and expertise. The Workshop is mainly aimed at LDCs which do not have a National Standardization, Metrology and/or Accreditation Body or that do have such bodies but these are underdeveloped or need further development.
The Workshop aims at:
1) Explaining SMIIC and the importance of harmonized standards, metrology and accreditation in the establishment of an efficient trading system and to foster active economic cooperation among OIC member states.
2) Discussing uniformity in Metrology and laboratory testing according to international standards.
3) Examining Accreditation, the processes involved and integration with the international arena. Explaining the importance of accreditation, stressing that without accreditation international recognition is unviable.
4) Discussing how standards within the Technical Committees are prepared with the contribution of stakeholders.
5) Forming an arena where relevant organisations among LDCs can come together to discuss how they can cooperate to help each other and fellow Muslim countries in the area of standardization, metrology and accreditation.
6) To bring together LDCs of OIC Member States where they will discuss what they can do for each other. If a NSB exists in that country, via the Workshop NSBs in OIC Member States can discuss possibilities for integration and helping each other. If such a body does not exist, possible projects of the establishment of a body will be discussed together.
7) Giving experts of advanced NSBs the chance to analyse the situation in the host country and region and determine the necessary steps that need to be taken for advancement of these NSBs.
8) Providing an opportunity for experts of advanced NSBs to share their knowledge and experience with other OIC LDCs.
The Workshop will be conducted in coordination with Turkish Standards Institution (TSE), Turkish National Metrology Institute (TÜBİTAK-UME) and Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK) with the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).
