SMIIC seeks to enhance its current level of cooperation with ISO, IEC, CEN etc. in various platforms in order to achieve its goals through international recognition.
For this purpose, in line with the objectives set by SMIIC General Secretariat in February 2015, Mr. Sebahittin Korkmaz, Chairman of BOD of SMIIC, met Mr. Kevin Mckinley, Acting Secretary General of ISO, during the ISO meetings held on 14-18 September 2015 in Seoul, South Korea so as to enhance the Institute’s relations with regional and international organizations in standardization related fields.
Following a briefing on the activities and structure of SMIIC, Mr. Korkmaz underscored the importance of SMIIC projects which are conducted in compliance with the objectives of ISO and aim to contribute to the improvement the quality infrastructure of its member states besides developing common standards.
Mr. Chairman also stated that strategies set by SMIIC for the fields of standardization and metrology may be important inputs for ISO strategies.
For his part, Mr. Mckinley agreed that a cooperation between ISO and SMIIC will contribute to the promotion of ISO standards in SMIIC member states and to the active participation of SMIIC member bodies in the ISO Technical Committees. Hence, he stated that this cooperation will be discussed during the ISO Presidential Committee to be included in the agenda of the next ISO Council.
