The event aimed to assess current situation of halal practices and food industry among the ASEAN Member States (AMS) and China including its current concerns on public health and trade; to initiate recognition of equivalent halal food standards among AMS; and to create a venue that will initiate regular discussions of regional issues pertaining to halal food industry updates and weak points that need to be addresses.

To that end, SMIIC General Secretariat delegation delivered a corporate presentation on the objectives and activities of SMIIC in halal field. It was an important gathering for participants to share their experiences gained within their countries/regions in order to draw a framework for this fruitful initiative.
