SMIIC Secretary General Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT and his accompanying delegation participated in the Arab Standardization and Consumer’s Protection Forum on 16-17 October 2017 in Khartoum, the Republic of Sudan. The Forum was hosted and organized by the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) in collaboration with the Arab League and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO). During the forum, 22 working papers dealing with a number of important issues in the field of standardization, specifications, quality and consumer protection were discussed.
Mr. ÖVÜT delivered a presentation on SMIIC, Halal and the importance of OIC/SMIIC Standards for the consumer. He briefly introduced the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), SMIIC and the standardization activities that have been carried out under the SMIIC platform. He also indicated the importance of the SMIIC global standards on Halal Issues as well as the role of SMIIC in the overall quality infrastructure. He concluded with highlighting the benefits of the implementation of the OIC/SMIIC standards for the consumers.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Mr. ÖVÜT had bilateral meetings with the senior officials of the participating countries.
