Mr. İhsan Övüt, SMIIC Secretary General and his accompanying delegation paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 06 May 2018 and met Mr. Sardar Abul Kalam, Director General of BSTI and his team.

Mr. Sardar Abul Kalam provided information about BSTI including main tasks, functions and institutional structures of BSTI, the system of national standardization and conformity assessment, as well as laboratory activities.

Mr. İhsan Övüt shared objectives and the latest developments of SMIIC in detail by underscoring the importance of having a harmonized standards system under SMIIC and replied the questions of the BSTI staff.

The visit concluded with highlighting the importance cooperation among the institutions of the OIC Member States with regards to the issues of common interest. In this regard, both parties agreed to further communicate for the membership of BSTI on behalf of Bangladesh in SMIIC.
