17th SMIIC Board of Directors (BOD) Meeting
17th SMIIC Board of Directors (BOD) Meeting was held on 04 November 2018 in Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and hosted by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO). The meeting was attended by the representatives of the members of the SMIIC Board of Directors.
As the important outcomes of the meeting, the new membership applications of Republic of Kazakhstan and Republic of Uzbekistan were welcomed and approved by the Board of Directors which will be effective from 01 January 2019.
SMIIC Secretary General, Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT briefed the Board of Directors on the progress report of the each activity/action of the Major Strategic Activities/Actions document of SMIIC Strategic Plan 2016-2020 as well as on the progress of the implementation of all mandates given by the previous Board of Directors Resolutions.
The Board of Directors also discussed the Major Strategic Activities/Actions document of the SMIIC Strategic Plan for the 2019-2020 term, draft 2019 SMIIC Budget proposal and the appointment of the external financial auditor for 2018-2020 term.
During the meeting, latest activities of SMIIC Councils were presented by chairs/representatives of the each relevant Council. Terms of Reference of the Standardization Management Council (SMC) has been approved by the Board of Directors. The Board also decided to leave the approval of the draft Terms of Reference of the SMIIC Accreditation Council (AC) and approval of the election of the Chair and Vice-Chair of SMIIC AC in the agenda for further evaluation to reach large scale consensus.
Board of Directors decided to establish a permanent committee on finance to be chaired by the respected Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors (Turkey) and a permanent committee on strategy to be chaired by the respected Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors (Sudan).
The Board of Directors decided to hold the 18th SMIIC Board of Directors Meeting on 08-09 April 2019 in İstanbul, Republic of Turkey.
13th General Assembly (GA) Meeting
13th SMIIC General Assembly (GA) Meeting was held on 05 November 2018 in Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and hosted by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO). The meeting was attended by the representatives of the SMIIC Member and Observer States as well as the representatives of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) and Arab Industry Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO).
The opening session of the meeting started with the recitation of verses from Holy Qur'an. H.E. Dr. Saad AL-KASABI, Chairman of SMIIC Board of Directors (BOD) and Governor of SASO delivered the welcome speech as the host organization.
The message of H.E. Dr. Yousef A. OTHAIMEEN, Secretary General of OIC was delivered by H.E. Amb. Hameed A. OPELOYERU, Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs of the OIC after the opening speech of SMIIC Chairman of Board of Directors. H.E. Mr. Adel AL-SAQER, Director General of the AIDMO addressed the SMIIC GA Members. H.E. Mr. Saud AL-KHUSAIBI, Secretary General of the GSO and H.E. Dr. Abdul Salam AL-ABBADI, Secretary General of IIFA made their remarks.
Following the speeches of the heads of the invited organizations, H.E. Dr. Majid AL-QASABI, Minister of Commerce and Investment of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia delivered his speech to the participants of the SMIIC General Assembly Meeting.
The opening session ended with the vote of thanks and family photo.
SMIIC Secretary General, Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT delivered his speech by presenting a comprehensive report to the General Assembly explaining the progress of the mandates conducted and to be finalized in accordance with the previous General Assembly Resolutions.
The General Assembly discussed and approved the Major Strategic Activities/Actions document of the SMIIC Strategic Plan for the 2019-2020 term, Report of Financial Auditor for SMIIC General Secretariat for the year ended 31 December 2017, draft 2019 SMIIC Budget proposal and Annual Mandatory Contributions of Member States to 2019 SMIIC Budget.
An external financial auditor for 2018-2020 term was appointed by the General Assembly and situation of some Member States which have not paid their contributions was again reviewed in detail.
During the meeting, chairs/representatives of the SMIIC Councils submitted their reports and informed the General Assembly on their technical activities.
It was a very stimulating and fruitful meeting which had an extensive agenda and constructive engagement of delegates on the agenda items whose outcomes are expected to help SMIIC move forward.
The General Assembly expressed their deep sorrow over the passing away of Mr. Lütfi Öksüz who was the very first Secretary General of SMIIC and sent their condolences to his family.
The General Assembly decided to hold the 14th SMIIC General Assembly Meeting on 04 November 2019.
