3rd Meeting of the SMIIC Standardization Management Council(SMC) was held in Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 03 November 2019. Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) hosted the meeting. During the meeting, SMIIC SMC approved the establishment of the new technical committee - TC 16 - titled as Halal Pharmaceuticals Issues. Malaysia took the secretariat responsibility as the originator of the proposal and Prof. Dr. Zhari Ismail was assigned as the Chairman of the committee for the term 2020-2025.

On the other hand, SMIIC SMC approved the establishment of the another new technical committee on Handicraft as TC 17 and the secretariat was allocated to Egypt as the originator of the proposal.

Initially, TC 16 - Halal Pharmaceuticals Issues has 10 P-Members and 2 O-Members. P-Members are Iran, Malaysia, Morocco, Niger, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey and Uganda. O-Members are United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

TC 17 Handicraft has initially 5 P-Members and 8 O-Members. P-Members are Egypt, Morocco, Niger, Turkey and Uganda. O-Members are Benin, Iran, Jordan, Palastine, Saudi Arabia, Suriname, Tunusia and United Arab Emirates.
