The 10th Meeting of the SMIIC Metrology Council (MC) was held in İstanbul on 16 May 2022 and hosted by the SMIIC General Secretariat. Following the recitation from the Holy Quran, Dr. Mustafa ÇETINTAŞ, Chairman of the SMIIC MC and Acting Director of TUBITAK UME, welcomed the participants to the meeting, expressing his pleasure to see the SMIIC MC Members participating in the meeting. H.E. Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT, Secretary General of SMIIC, gave a welcoming speech. He mentioned the steps taken by the General Secretariat to achieve its strategic goals and the latest activities of SMIIC. Dr. Mustafa Çetintaş was elected as the Chairman of SMIIC MC and Dr. Zijad Dzemic was elected as Vice-Chairman of SMIIC MC for the 2022-2024 term to be submitted to the approval of the SMIIC Board of Directors.
The meeting was attended by 43 representatives from a total of 20 Members States, 3 Observer members and as well as the 1 (one) representative of GULF Association for Metrology (GULFMET) attended as guest.
During the meeting presentations were given on the following:
- Progress on implementation of SMIIC MC Work Plan
- Progress on Transition of Member States to higher category
- Halal activities in Member States
- SMIIC MC Inter Laboratory Comparisons
- Latest developments in member states
- EMCIC project
TÜBİTAK UME gave information about the BIPM – TÜBİTAK UME Project Placement and stressed the importance of being a member or associate of BIPM.
Presentations and speeches regarding the latest developments and Halal activities in their countries of Burkina Faso, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Albania, GULFMET were given by their representatives. MC Members possible projects for capacity building. MC Trainings and capacity building projects will continue as planned in the SMIIC MC Work Plan 2021-2023 V2.
