The 12th Meeting of the SMIIC Metrology Council (MC) was held in Hybrid format during 26-27 April 2023 in İstanbul, Republic of Türkiye. It was hosted by the SMIIC General Secretariat and National Metrology Institute of Türkiye (TUBİTAK UME). Following the recitation from the Holy Quran, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa ÇETINTAŞ, Chairman of the SMIIC MC and Acting Director of TUBITAK UME, welcomed the participants to the meeting, expressing his pleasure to see the SMIIC MC Members participating in the meeting. H.E. Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT, Secretary General of SMIIC, gave a welcoming speech. He mentioned the steps taken by the General Secretariat to achieve its strategic goals and the latest activities of SMIIC. Dr. Ismail Alfaleh from Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization - National Metrology and Calibration Center (SASO-NMCC) was elected as Vice-Chairman of SMIIC MC for the 2022-2024 term to be submitted to the approval of the SMIIC Board of Directors.

The meeting was attended by 73 representatives (53 physically and 18 online) from a total of 24 Members and Observer States. The representative of GULF Association for Metrology (GULFMET) attended as guest.

Presentations and speeches regarding the latest developments and Halal activities in Thailand, Pakistan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Türkiye, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and GULFMET were given by their representatives. The MC Trainings and capacity building projects will continue as planned in the SMIIC MC Work Plan 2021-2023 V3.
