The SMIIC FORUM 2015: Standardization and Conformity Assessment on Halal Issueswas held on 05 May 2015, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with the participation of nearly 200 people from different parts of the world.
 
Abdulla Abdelqader Al Maeeni, Director General of ESMA delivered a keynote address in the inauguration ceremony of the Forum and it was followed by the speeches of Mr. Elmostafa Aitamor Senior Cooperation Specialist from Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Mr. Nabil Molla, Secretary General of GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) and Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT, Secretary General of SMIIC.

SMIIC FORUM 2015 with the theme; Standardization and Conformity Assessment on Halal Issues was held in Dubai consecutively to the SMIIC meetings on 05 May 2015. During the SMIIC FORUM 2015, the importance of OIC/SMIIC Standards, Fiqh Issues, Conformity Assessment and Accreditation activities for the economic development of OIC Member States were underscored within the sessions sorted for these topics. Nearly 200 participants from different parts of the world attended the forum and made their valuable contributions.

SMIIC FORUM 2015 included the following four sessions:

1. OIC/SMIIC Standards

2. Fiqh Issues

3. Conformity Assessment Activities

4. Accreditation Panel Discussion

During the Forum, it was witnessed that manufacturers, certification bodies and other related stakeholders of the global halal market agree on having a harmonized halal standards and accreditation system established under the umbrella of SMIIC and they give their support for the promotion of SMIIC in this regard.

These actors who seek immediate solution to their existing problems caused by the multitude of different halal standards, expressed the challenges they have faced in the global halal market, and the urge to unite all the related stakeholders under the roof of SMIIC for ensuring the awareness regarding a unified halal system was reiterated in the way of having a trustworthy certification scheme which is based on intergovernmental accreditation.

With its four topic-related sessions and questions & answers part, SMIIC FORUM 2015 was a fruitful gathering for the promotion of objectives and activities of SMIIC.
