Mr. İhsan ÖVÜT, Secretary General of SMIIC and his accompanying delegation paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Secretary General of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Mr Sergio Mujica, on 21 August 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. 

Following a brief presentation on the activities and structure of SMIIC, Mr. ÖVÜT underscored the importance of SMIIC projects which aim to contribute to the improvement of the quality infrastructure of its Member States, especially Least Developed Countries (LDCs), besides developing common standards. That SMIIC Members will also benefit from technical cooperation between SMIIC and ISO.

Both parties agreed that strategies set by SMIIC for the fields of standardization and metrology may be important inputs for ISO strategies. Mr Sergio Mujica expressed that he was pleased to meet the SMIIC representatives and be informed about SMIIC and its activities. He also explained that they will be transparent about the level of technical cooperation between SMIIC and ISO and that he will submit this issue to ISO Council during their next meeting to be held in September 2017.
