SMIIC and OIC Global Halal Quality Infrastructure Awareness and Foundation Training, 06-09 May 2024, Malaysia

SMIIC organized a training program on SMIIC and OIC Global Halal Quality Infrastructure Awareness and Foundation Training in Malaysia between 06-09 May 2024 on the request of Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM) and Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) as per the endorsement of Malaysia of the SMIIC initiative related to the OIC Global Halal Quality Infrastructure (OHAQ). The training aimed to facilitate the process and to prepare for the eventual implementation of the OIC Global Halal Quality Infrastructure in Malaysia.
 
As per the request of DSM, the training topics were as follows:
 
  • SMIIC Standardization Activities
    • SMIIC Standards Management Council (SMIIC SMC), structure, function, activities
  • OIC Global Halal Quality Infrastructure
  • Introduction to the SMIIC Accreditation Council (SMIIC AC)
  • Introduction to the SMIIC Committee on Standards for Conformity Assessment (SMIIC/CCA) and its published standards
  • Introduction to IFHAB
  • Introduction to relevant OIC/SMIIC standards on Halal
  • OIC/ SMIIC 1:2019 - General Requirements for Halal Food
  • OIC/ SMIIC 2:2019 - Conformity Assessment – Requirements for Bodies Providing Halal Certification
  • OIC/ SMIIC 3:2019 - Conformity Assessment - Requirements for Halal Accreditation Bodies Accrediting Halal Conformity Assessment Bodies
 
The training took place at Bahagian Hal Ehwal Undang-Undang (BHEUU), Putrajaya and Sama Sama Hotel, Sepang.
 
The opening session was held on 06 May 2024, included the welcoming speeches from YBrs. Ustaz Mohamad Zamri bin Mohamed Shapik, Director of Halal Management Division of JAKIM, YBrs Puan Norhaliza Arifin, Senior Principal Assistant Director of DSM and YBrs Mohd Amri Bin Abdullah, Senior Principal Assistant Director of Halal Management Division of JAKIM.
 
The training was given by Yasin Zülfikaroğlu and Çağrı Cankurtaran of SMIIC General Secretariat and Dr. Mete Çevik of Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK) of Türkiye. It was a highly productive and efficient training, equipping experts with the necessary knowledge and expertise.
 
A total of 150 experts consisting of JAKIM auditors, DSM assessors and DSM employees participated in the training as Malaysia's preparation towards the implementation of the OHAQ.
 
The training ended on 09 May 2024 with the closing remarks of YBrs. Tuan Marzuki bin Hassan Director of Sekretariat Majlis Halal Malaysia and YBrs Puan Norhaliza Arifin Senior Principal Assistant Director of DSM.
