The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) successfully organized a virtual foundation training for experts from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Thursday, 29 May 2025.
The training aimed to build the capacity of SON personnel in the field of halal conformity assessment and laboratory practices, in line with OIC/SMIIC standards. A total of 15 participants from SON took part in this targeted session.
The training covered three key areas:
- SMIIC Information System (IS):
Delivered by Mr. Murat Taşarsu, SMIIC IT Expert, this session introduced participants to the functionalities and structure of the SMIIC Information System. - OIC/SMIIC 35:2020 – Conformity Assessment – General Requirements for the Competence of Laboratories Performing Halal Testing, and
- OIC/SMIIC 36 – Conformity Assessment – General Requirements of Proficiency Testing for Halal Purposes
Dr. Mohammed Ali Alsheikh Wace led this comprehensive session, offering a detailed overview of the standards. The training focused on the main pillars, principles, and specific requirements of each standard, with ample opportunity for questions and interaction.
This initiative reflects SMIIC’s ongoing commitment to supporting its Member States in strengthening their national quality infrastructure in alignment with internationally recognized OIC/SMIIC halal standards.
