The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) successfully organized a webinar on 20 May 2025, to commemorate World Metrology Day 2025 under the theme “The Central Role of SMIIC in Metrological Cooperation within the OIC.” The event brought together 70 participants from across the globe, including experts, policymakers, and representatives from National Metrology Institutes and OIC member states. The webinar opened with remarks from key leaders who emphasized the importance of metrological cooperation for sustainable development and mutual recognition among OIC Member States. H.E. Saeed Mohammed ALMHERIRI, Chairman of the SMIIC Metrology Council, highlighted the need for unified metrology systems to facilitate trade and ensure measurement reliability. H.E. İhsan ÖVÜT, SMIIC Secretary General, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to strengthening metrological infrastructure and capacity building across the OIC. Speaking on behalf of H.E. Hissein Brahim TAHA, OIC Secretary General, Mr. Naghi Jabbarov, Director of Economic Affairs, commended SMIIC’s efforts in advancing technical cooperation and emphasized metrology’s vital role in supporting industrial development, food safety, and innovation.
Following the opening session, Mr. Majed Sultan Ali Saeed Al Senaidi, SMIIC Metrology Council Secretary, delivered a presentation on SMIIC Metrology Council Activities, providing an overview of the Council’s initiatives, achievements, and strategic plans aimed at further strengthening regional metrological collaboration.
The event concluded with a presentation on “Halal Metrology” by Dr. Burhanettin YALÇINKAYA, who discussed the importance of reliable measurement systems in halal conformity assessment and their contribution to consumer trust and market credibility.
The 2025 World Metrology Day celebration reaffirmed SMIIC’s pivotal role in promoting metrological cooperation among OIC Member States and advancing a culture of accuracy, transparency, and mutual recognition in measurement systems in line with international best practices.
