16th SMIIC Metrology Council Meeting
The 16th Meeting of the SMIIC Metrology Council (MC) was held on 27–28 October 2025 in İstanbul, Republic of Türkiye, hosted by the SMIIC General Secretariat.
Following the recitation from the Holy Quran, H.E. Saeed Almehiri, Chairman of the SMIIC MC, welcomed the members to the meeting and emphasized the importance of the MC’s work in developing metrology infrastructure within the Member States and across the OIC region. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the activities of the Council and to further strengthening cooperation among the national metrology institutes of SMIIC Member States.
H.E. İhsan Övüt, Secretary General of SMIIC, welcomed the participants and highlighted the steps taken by the SMIIC General Secretariat to achieve its strategic goals and the latest activities undertaken under the SMIIC framework. He expressed his satisfaction with the progress achieved by the Metrology Council and underlined the importance of enhancing collaboration with international and regional metrology organizations. He also stressed the need to further develop the concept of Halal Metrology to support conformity assessment and quality infrastructure in OIC Member States.
The meeting was attended by 56 representatives (31 physically and 25 online) from a total of 21 Members and Observer States. The representative of GULF Association for Metrology (GULFMET) attended as guest.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the new SMIIC MC Strategy Proposal, along with other technical and administrative matters under the Council’s work program, as well as presentations on specific metrology topics delivered by Member States.
During the meeting, presentations were delivered on the latest metrology developments in Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Kyrgyz Republic, Malaysia, Sudan, Türkiye, Qatar, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and the United Arab Emirates.
Participants expressed appreciation for the continuous efforts of SMIIC and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening metrology cooperation among OIC Member States under the framework of the SMIIC Metrology Council.
