The 17th Meeting of the Metrology Council (MC) was successfully held virtually on 6 April 2026.
Following the recitation from the Holy Quran, H.E. Saeed Almehiri, Chairman of the SMIIC MC, welcomed the members and thanked them for their participation. He emphasized the importance of the Metrology Council’s work and highlighted the significance of the MC Strategic Plan in guiding future activities and strengthening cooperation among Member States.
H.E. İhsan Övüt, Secretary General of SMIIC, welcomed the participants and highlighted the steps taken by the SMIIC General Secretariat to achieve its strategic goals and the latest activities undertaken under the SMIIC framework. He expressed his appreciation to the Council members for their continued support and cooperation and conveyed his wishes for a fruitful and productive meeting.
Dr. Ismail AlFaleh, President of Gulf Association for Metrology (GULFMET), also expressed his appreciation for the invitation and provided a brief overview of GULFMET’s activities.
The meeting was attended by 65 representatives from a total of 29 Member and Observer States, as well as liaison organizations. Representatives from the Intra-Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS) and the Gulf Association for Metrology (GULFMET) attended the meeting as guests.
A key highlight of the meeting was the adoption of the SMIIC MC Strategy 2026–2028, which will guide future activities and initiatives of the Council.
During the meeting, participants also delivered presentations on the latest developments in metrology in several Member States, including Indonesia, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan. These presentations provided valuable insights into national progress, challenges, and opportunities for further collaboration.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the continued efforts of SMIIC and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening metrology cooperation among OIC Member States under the framework of the SMIIC Metrology Council.
