The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) successfully convened its 31st Board of Directors (BoD) Meeting on 29 April 2026 in a virtual format, with the participation of distinguished representatives from Member States.
During the meeting, the Secretary General presented a comprehensive report outlining the activities and progress of the Institute. Furthermore, the SMIIC Accreditation Council (AC), SMIIC Metrology Council (MC), and SMIIC Standardization Management Council (SMC) presented their respective reports, highlighting key achievements and ongoing initiatives in their areas of work.
The Board of Directors approved the SMIIC Annual Report, reflecting the Institute’s continued commitment to strengthening quality infrastructure across Member States.
A key decision of the meeting was the acceptance of the Sultanate of Oman as a new Participant Member of SMIIC. This membership will become effective as of 1 January 2027.
The meeting brought together representatives from a wide range of countries, including Cameroon, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, Türkiye and United Arab Emirates demonstrating strong engagement and cooperation among SMIIC stakeholders.
SMIIC remains committed to enhancing collaboration and harmonization among Member States in the fields of standardization, metrology, and accreditation, thereby contributing to economic development and facilitating trade within the OIC region.
