The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) successfully organized the training course entitled “OIC/SMIIC 33:2020 Conformity Assessment – Example of a Certification Scheme for Halal Products” virtually on 16–17 June 2026.

The two-day training brought together 21 participants from various countries around the world, reflecting the growing international interest in strengthening competence and harmonization in Halal conformity assessment practices.

The training program was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the requirements and practical implementation of OIC/SMIIC 33:2020, with a focus on developing effective and reliable Halal certification schemes. Throughout the sessions, participants were introduced to the pillars of OIC/SMIIC 33:2020 and how to generate a Solid Certification Scheme. Participants also benefited from a dedicated session on Some Lessons from HAK’s Experience, where valuable insights and real-world experiences were shared regarding the implementation and operation of Halal certification schemes.

The training concluded with an evaluation test aimed at assessing participants’ understanding of the topics covered during the course.

Through this training, SMIIC continues its commitment to supporting capacity building among its stakeholders and promoting the effective implementation of OIC/SMIIC standards, thereby contributing to the harmonization and development of the global Halal quality infrastructure.
