The Secretary General of SMIIC, H.E. Mr. İhsan Övüt, and his accompanying delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, H.E. Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, on 25 June 2026 at the Headquarters of the D-8 Secretariat in Istanbul. 

During the visit, a number of issues of mutual interest were discussed. These included the ongoing and future activities of the two institutions, potential areas for collaboration, and opportunities to further strengthen institutional cooperation between the two organizations through joint initiatives and formal cooperation mechanisms.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation is an organization for development cooperation among Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Türkiye, with Azerbaijan joining as the ninth member state in 2024.
