The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) successfully conducted a virtual training programme on OIC/SMIIC 18:2021 – Halal Quality Management System – Requirements on 5–6 August 2026, as part of the technical capacity-building activities under the Strengthening Uganda’s Halal Quality Infrastructure initiative. The two-day training brought together Ugandan stakeholders and professionals involved in the development and implementation of the halal quality infrastructure, providing participants with an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of OIC/SMIIC 18:2021 and its application within Uganda’s emerging halal ecosystem.
Strengthening Uganda’s Halal Quality Infrastructure
The training forms part of SMIIC’s ongoing technical cooperation and capacity-building support to Uganda, aimed at strengthening the country’s halal quality infrastructure and enhancing the technical capabilities of relevant institutions and professionals.
Enhancing Understanding of OIC/SMIIC 18:2021
During the training, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the principles, structure, and requirements of OIC/SMIIC 18:2021 – Halal Quality Management System – Requirements. The training also provided an interactive platform for participants to discuss practical challenges, exchange experiences, and explore how the requirements of OIC/SMIIC 18:2021 can be applied within different organizational and national contexts.
Through such technical cooperation activities, SMIIC continues to support Uganda in strengthening its national halal quality infrastructure and in building the foundations for effective standardization, conformity assessment, certification, and quality management practices in the halal sector.
