The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) welcomed H.E. Mr. Adul Chotininsakorn, former Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand and Project Advisor; Ms. Paiyada Hanchaisuksakul, Director of the National Food Institute of Thailand; Mr. Prasan Boonsong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Central Islamic Council of Thailand; and accompanying researchers to SMIIC Headquarters on 24 August 2026.

The courtesy visit was held as part of the research mission titled “Thai Halal Food Industry Capability Development for Global Consumers”, providing a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences on halal standards, conformity assessment, accreditation, and capacity building.

The programme featured a series of technical presentations highlighting SMIIC’s role in strengthening the halal ecosystem and supporting harmonized approaches across OIC countries.

• Mrs. Emel Gönce, SMIIC Expert, Programme Officer Coordinator, delivered an introduction to SMIIC, its institutional framework, and its role in building trust through harmonized OIC/SMIIC Halal Standards and the standardization framework.
• Mr. Çağrı Cankurtaran, SMIIC Expert and Secretary of the Conformity Assessment Committee and SMIIC Accreditation Council, presented “Ensuring Global Confidence: The Role of the SMIIC Accreditation Council,” highlighting the importance of accreditation in supporting confidence, competence, and international recognition within the halal conformity assessment system.
• Dr. Marwa Khalil, SMIIC Expert and Programme Officer Coordinator, presented “The Role of the SMIIC Training Center and SMIIC Academy of Halal Learning in Capacity Building,” outlining opportunities for knowledge development, professional training, and capacity enhancement through SMIIC’s training programmes and the SMIIC Academy.

The technical presentations were followed by an interactive dialogue and experience-sharing session, during which the delegations exchanged views on common challenges, shared national experiences, and explored potential areas for future cooperation, particularly in technical collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building activities.

As Thailand is a member of SMIIC, SMIIC looks forward to further strengthening its cooperation with Thailand and supporting initiatives that contribute to the development of a trusted, harmonized, and globally competitive halal industry
