The purpose of this standard is to define the physicochemical specifications, classification, grading, sampling, test methods, packaging and labelling of whole (pitted or unpitted) soft, semi-dry and dry dates in their natural state for direct human consumption. This standard does not apply to other styles of dates. For example date pieces, date paste or dates for industrial applications.
